Ultimate Car Club Gives Out Dream Vehicles With Membership

Most of us have given up on the idea of ever owning an exotic car like a Ferrari or a Lamborghini. In fact, most of us can't even conceive of the day when we might drive one of those vehicles.

But now with a little forbearance and a lot of cash, you can get access to all of them. At least if you're a member of P1international, a British car club that owns a fleet of luxury cars worth US$11 million. The perks of membership - you'll get to take all their valuable vehicles for a few spins without having to actually fork out the big bucks to own one of them.

Not that it's exactly cheap. Yearly membership costs US$24,000, and there's a one time sign up fee of 5-grand. You also have to take a driving course and how long you get to keep the car in question depends on what you're driving and when and how much it's worth. A complicated points system determines the rest.

You might think in tough economic times and an era where keeping gas in your tank costs almost as much as a new car, there wouldn't be a lot of takers. But you'd be wrong.

"I see the market coming back towards us ironically because a lot of people who perhaps had their name down for a Ferrari or Lamborghini, and maybe their bonus wasn't quite what they had hoped it would be, they kind of still need to get their fix," explains founder Michael Breen.

Many of the members belong to the financial world, a place where making money for a company is important but keeping it for themselves isn't that easy. Jim Hart fits the demographic perfectly. "I like to try the cars out for one or two days and then if I do, I tend to use them when we go away for a longer period, say for a week's holiday."

So what kind of high end cars are available? There's a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, an Audi Q7, a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster (top left), an Aston Martin Vanquish S, a Ford GT, a Bentley Flying Spur, a Jaguar XKR and a Porsche Cayenne S - just to name a few that are out of your price range. ( See the whole list here.)

So far, putting the pedal to the metal for one of these dream cars also requires a trip to Britain, but what's another expense among friends?

But you may soon be able to access these amazing machines closer to home. P1 International's unusual rent-a-car idea has been such a hit over 'ome, that Breen plans an expansion to Dubai, Switzerland and the U.S.

There's no word on whether Canada will ever be on that list, but like the cars themselves, you can dream can't you? Because as this place proves, where there's a wheel, there's a way.
