After seven years of faithfully playing Lotto 649, a retired construction worker from Pefferlaw finally hit the jackpot on Wednesday.
Alan Williams had been playing the same numbers every week, but when he and his wife Margaret stopped at a Shoppers Drug Mart in Sutton on Wednesday, he bought a Quick Pick on an impulse.
When the 73-year-old checked the ticket later that night, he realized it was the winning combination and worth more than $15.6 million.
"[Margaret and I] were both stunned when we realized all six numbers matched," Williams said.
"We both couldn't sleep a wink knowing we had a winning Lotto 649 ticket."
They picked up their winnings in Toronto the next day.
Williams, who has been married to his wife for 49 years, has no plans for the money but said he is going to take care of his sons, their wives and his three grandchildren first. He may take a trip to Birmingham, England, where he and Margaret were born and raised.
