Police say a Canadian man has been killed in a shooting and hostage taking at a Florida RV park.

The incident left three people — including the suspect — dead and two others critically injured.

The Broward Sheriff's Office says the gunman, William De Jesus, drove to the Highland Woods RV Park with his wife and their two children on Thursday night.

Once there, the 37-year-old from Port Orange, Fla., approached a motor home which belonged to 76-year-old Quebecer Ovila Plante.

Police say De Jesus shot Plante in the chest and head, killing him.

They say De Jesus then led his family into the RV, which was still occupied by Plante's girlfriend, Quebecer Pierrette Beauchemin. She managed to escape and a SWAT team surrounded the RV.

After a seven-hour standoff, authorities entered the vehicle early Friday and found De Jesus and his nine-year-old son Jeshiah dead.

His wife, Deanna, and seven-year-old son Samson were badly injured.

Police say William De Jesus first stabbed his sons with a knife, then stabbed his wife and himself.

The RV park is in Deerfield Beach, north of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
