A massive flood that hit the Philippines over the weekend as left 140 people dead and displaced tens of thousands, officials in that country warned on Monday.
Those that survived are in dire need of aid, including clean water and food. At least 32 people are missing.
The government appealed for help from the international community following the devastation caused by Typhoon Ketsana.
The tropical storm hit Manila and surrounding provinces on Saturday, dumping 410 millimetres of rain on the northern provinces in just 24 hours.
Homes and businesses were destroyed, roads and bridges were washed out, and what were once profitable crops are now soggy fields.
The damage is estimated at approximately $30 million (US), $10 million of that from lost crops.
The clean-up began on Sunday, even as parts of the capital remained submerged in three metres of water.
According to a 2006 census, Toronto is home to about 172,000 Filipinos.
