The Canadian-Somali community is reeling following reports that a Toronto
teenager said to have been recruited by a terrorist organization was killed.
The group known as Al-Shabaab says
Mohammed Elmi Ibrahim, who went missing two years ago, has been killed in
Somalia.
Ahmed Hussen, the national president
of the Canadian Somali Congress, says several youth have been lured into
fighting through aggressive recruitment techniques, which include online videos
depicting a young man rapping about jihad.
Hussen says families are so worried
about the recruitment that they have hidden their children's passports.
Six Muslim men who attended the Abu
Haraina mosque in Toronto went missing last fall and are believed to have joined
Al-Shabaab.
Ottawa banned the Somalia-based group
as a terrorist organization earlier this month.
