A 26-year-old woman was rushed to hospital with serious stab wounds Tuesday night after she was reportedly the target of a random attack at a bus shelter at Broadview and Danforth.

Police say she was waiting peacefully around 8:30pm when the man came from out of nowhere and slashed her multiple times before fleeing.

A Good Samaritan standing nearby came to her aid when she heard the screams, put a purse under the victim's head and kept talking to her.

"I put pressure on her stomach, she was bleeding a lot," Margot Hines said. "I don't even know where it was coming from, it was gushing.

"She asked me if she was going to die and I said ... 'no you're going to be okay.'"

A 46-year-old man with a knife was tracked down and arrested north of the scene. Investigators say from what they've seen the attack appears to be completely unprovoked.
