When Yasmin Ashareh's body was found in a garbage bag inside her west end housing complex, the question from friends and neighbours alike was a simple, 'how?'
People wondered what motive an individual could possibly have had to exact such a horrific act on the young woman, and for that matter, who that individual could possibly be.
On Friday, at least one of those questions may have come a lot closer to finding its answer.
Police charged a Toronto man in Ashareh's slaying exactly two weeks after the grizzly discovery of her body was first made.
William-Imona Russel faces charges of first-degree murder.
The 32-year-old was a tenant of the same unit where Ashareh lived.
Police still aren't clear on exactly what the motive could have been, but they've ruled out two potentials.
"There's absolutely no truth to previous reports that the deceased was murdered as a result of a shame killing or that she was pregnant," said Det. Wayne Banks of Homicide Squad.
"There's no evidence to indicate any of this."
Russell will be in Old City Hall Court Saturday morning.
Homicide detectives would like to speak with any area residents that saw Russel in the area of John Garland between July 8 and 14.
