It was a classic case of being extra careful, but Toronto Police couldn't afford to do anything else.
They raced to the scene at North York General Hospital at Leslie and Highway 401 Wednesday afternoon, where a suspicious package was found in the parking lot.
Officials say a person who may have an issue with the facility has made credible threats against it in the past, and they were treating the possibility with caution.
What they found though, was no bomb. The package was x-rayed and blasted with water and deemed harmless moments later.
The hospital wasn't evacuated during the emergency but parking - already a difficulty at the site - was at a premium for a time.
Police haven't said exactly what was in the package, though it may have been drug paraphernalia carried by a woman who was bringing her son to the site after filing for his arrest.
Afraid the man might bolt the scene, the cops were called and when they sifted through the drug-related goods - left on top of a car in the lot that backs onto the 401 - they may have feared one item was a bomb.
The ETF set up a command post but there were no disruptions inside for patients, staff or visitors.
Most of these kinds of incidents rarely end up being anything serious and police tend to downplay them to avoid copycats.
