Violent Weekend In Peel Leaves Three Men Dead

On the day he was laid to rest, the family and friends of Brandon Paltooram got a much-needed sliver of closure.

One week after a deadly night that saw three people killed in Peel Region, police have arrested another suspect in the teen's slaying.

And this one is just 16 years old.

The accused, who can't be identified because of his age, is believed to be responsible for the death of Paltooram.

"Peel Regional homicide detectives arrested a 16-year-old male from Mississauga and have charged him with second-degree murder and attempted murder," confirmed Cst. Adam Minnion.

On Saturday, Oct. 11 it's alleged Paltooram was at a party on Rosewater Court near Creditview and Eglinton. Cops say an altercation inside moved out onto the street just after midnight, possibly after Paltooram came to the aid of a young woman that was being harassed by a group.

In the fallout two people were stabbed, and were both rushed away by ambulance. But it was too late for one of them. Paltooram was pronounced dead in hospital.

The other victim, a 20-year-old Toronto man, remains in hospital but is expected to survive.

The teenager has been charged with second degree murder and attempted murder.

On Saturday, those that knew and loved the young man gathered to pay him a painful farewell.

"He hasn't even lived life yet, he's 19 years old," lamented family member Imran Haniff. "It's hard to believe."

"The person who did it ... I don't understand why," added stunned uncle Sunny Jokhai.

If you saw anything, call the Homicide Bureau at 905-453-2121, ext. 3205, or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

In all three men were killed that Saturday night in Peel.

Hardupinder (Harry) Gill was fatally shot in the face and chest at an engagement party on Pickfair Drive. Two other men were also wounded. On Friday, police arrested a suspect.

Kamual Japp, 22, was killed outside the Sugar Island Bar. There have been no arrests.

It's only October, and there have already been 24 homicides in Peel - that's seven more than the previous record of 17 set in 2007.
