As a desperate teen she crashed on friends' couches, and when none were available, she braved the streets of Toronto.  But from that humble beginning, Sarah Thomson turned her life around, becoming the CEO and founder of Women's Post media.

Now she has her sights set on the big seat in City Hall.

On Tuesday, Thomson became the first woman to enter the mayoral race, making it official at around noon.

She joins notables like George Smitherman, Joe Pantalone, Rocco Rossi and city councillor Giorgio Mammoliti.

TTC Chair Adam Giambrone is also expected to throw his hat in the ring on Feb. 1st.
