A visitation was held on Monday for a child who drowned in the Otonabee River last week.

Avrey Pringle, four, was with relatives around 10:35am on  July 15 when the current pulled him away under a bridge and he didn't surface. There were no adults there, so his older sister ran for help.

OPP dive crews pulled his body from the water at 8pm.

The next day, a makeshift memorial of teddy bears appeared at Inverlea Bridge where police, family and friends had frantically searched for the boy.

"We just need to do something about the river," Avrey's tearful grandmother Tammy Seeney said on Monday.

"We're all just trying not to break down, because of each other," she added.

The visitation was held at the Brett Funeral Chapel in Havelock and the funeral will take place there on Tuesday.

So far this summer, 43 people have drowned in Ontario. As a result, the province is considering strengthening the rules for all public and private pools.
