Fast & Furious: Viewers Declare War Over U.S. News Outlet's Comments On Cdn. Military

It takes a lot to make a normally placid Canadian angry. But what one U.S. cable network did earlier this month has been enough to do just that. And then some.

We've received a flood of email filled with your complaints about a short segment on Fox News Channel's Red Eye segment that questioned the bravery and fighting prowess of our troops in Afghanistan.

It came to the fore but aired before four Canadians were killed in action on Friday, bringing the total number of local lives lost to 116.

Your responses arrived so fast - and so furiously - we were barely able to process them all. Here's just a few of them. Some of them have understandably been edited for length - and language.

"Not at all surprising considering the most intelligent voice on Fox is Homer Simpson."
Steve Shingler

"Canadians have to remember that this idiotic segment was showed on Fox News, the equivalent of Mad Magazine in the journalism world."
Michael Chu

"God may well need to bless America just to give it some respectability."
Ed J. Brogden

"These people are arrogant, egotistical and downright ignorant ... We continued to support them in Afghanistan even after a stupid pilot killed 6 of our soldiers and the Americans just shrug their shoulder. Well they can all go to hell."
Peter O'Donnell

"Something tells me that these commentators (and their show) only appeal to the bottom of the intelligence barrel when it comes to the American population. I wouldn't take this anymore seriously than a Saturday Night Live sketch, although I do suspect SNL actors would be looked upon with more respect than these half-wits."
Richard Smith

"Is it any wonder that Americans need to hide behind the Canadian flag, when travelling to other parts of the world? Their obvious ignorance and arrogance, not only towards Canada, but other countries as well, shows that their government is steeped in propaganda ... This video and the remarks made are a fine example of ignorance and arrogance, US style, by the panel."
Susan Irwin

"It boggles my mind that people could watch such uneducated individuals banter away. But I guess I can't be hypocritical. Whenever I'm on vacation down in the USA, I love convincing them simple folk that I live in an igloo and drive a dog sled to work."
Ryan Kotzer

"A young man from my town is coming home today in a casket, along with colleagues of his going to their respective homes for burial. And you dare to say our military wants to do yoga and jog on the beach? And the comment that was made by one, I hate to use the word commentator, I'll use the word dumbass instead, didn't even know Canada was involved in the war.

"Well wasn't it the dumbass Americans who killed our Canadian soldiers a few years back by attacking them???? Or don't you f****in' idiots in the States watch your own news? I hope every Canadian in Canada and the States boycotts your broadcasts ... I invite you to attend a few of our servicemen's funerals. Maybe then you'll pull your head out of your a**."
Bonnie Bosak

"Wow ... what a bunch of morons!  I think they most certainly DO owe our militaries an apology!"
Lorraine Boutin-Gleason

"To the morons: you should pick up a book once and a while and read about Canadian history. Oh guess what morons - we have the same weather as you do."
Greg Scott

And finally the reaction from some viewers, who hope to be the voice of reason in the face of an issue charged with so much emotion.

"Getting mad or angry at those people is like getting mad at a puppy for peeing on the carpet - it isn't their fault, they just don't know any better. That was an amazing display of ignorance, but who really cares about what some people on a show called 'Red Eye' think!
Andrew Crone

"We all must remember the ignorance of these four does not represent the American people. It's unfortunate that people ... are in a position that affects the Americans public's reputation. If the four news anchors are so disgusted with our nation's military, I think they should come give us a hand, and they can start by carrying the coffins of our latest 4 fallen soldiers."
Philip Osier
