A streetcar collided with a bus at the intersection of Dundas and River injuring 17 people Thursday afternoon.

The TTC vehicle apparently derailed and then hit a Greyhound bus just after 3pm. The intersection was closed in both directions for the investigation.

EMS confirms all of the injuries are not life-threatening. The victims – one, reportedly a pedestrian – were transported to various hospitals via five ambulances and a bus.

"All of us went flying, there was smoke everywhere, we were like panicking, and some people helped us kick down the door," said one grade 7 student who was on the streetcar with classmates after a school trip.

Some of the students suffered injuries when trying to exit the streetcar through a smashed window.  Four were taken to hospital.

The bus was only carrying one person at the time - the driver.  He suffered a shoulder injury.

The TTC driver injured his hip.

The 505 Dundas streetcar is diverting to Queen between Victoria Street and Broadview Avenue.
