Cinema-Style Car Chase Starts In Movie Theatre Parking Lot

A cinema-style car chase began in an appropriate spot early on Sunday morning: the parking lot of the Winston Churchill AMC.

There's been a rash of thefts near the movie theatre and plainclothes officers were already on scene around 2am.

That's when they spotted at least one suspect breaking into a gold-coloured SUV. Officers allege that he had an accomplice who was breaking into an adjacent vehicle, a GMC Yukon.

Both suspects accelerated out of the parking lot and by this time, uniformed officers had been brought in.

But it didn't deter the two men who allegedly drove straight towards members of Halton Regional Police.

The driver of the Yukon swerved but the SUV kept coming. One officer fired his weapon and CityNews cameras spotted at least three shell casings at the scene.

The vehicles tore around the parking lot in an attempt to escape but the driver of the Yukon wasn't so lucky. He crashed his vehicle into the back of a restaurant and took off on foot.

Police allege that he was later picked up by the driver of the SUV.

The two men still have not been found.  The OPP pursued the SUV on Highway 403 near Brantford, but the driver got away.

Cops are now looking for the suspects - described only as two men in their 20s - and the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche, licence plate 916 2HK. Police say the SUV the thieves were driving is also stolen. It will have bullet holes in the driver's side door and windows.

If you see it, call 911 - don't try to follow it yourself.

No police officers were injured but there are fears that either suspect may have been shot, or hurt in the crash.

If you can help, call Halton Regional Police at  905-825-4747 ext. 2219 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.
