TTC Construction Causes Chaos For Commuters

On the same day extended construction began on the TTC, problems plagued The Better Way and hundreds of its riders.

With all westbound and eastbound trains ending at Museum on the University-Spadina line forcing passengers to transfer there as part of a six-weekend construction plan, hundreds were stranded on platforms Saturday after switcher problems temporarily stopped subway service between Ossington and Broadview stations.

In response to the unexpected and additional delays the TTC had shuttle busses waiting outside, but many riders say they waited nearly an hour on platforms because they weren't told about the alternate transportation.

And when they did figure it out, the buses weren't coming quickly enough to move the hoards out of the bitter cold and on to wherever they hoped to go.

"It's terrible," one disgruntled commuter exclaimed.

"Too many people and of course they don't tell you what's going on."

Lineups were especially long in the Yonge and Bloor area, and just when things finally started going smoothly, another snag occurred at the end of the initially affected area.

And during the early evening weekend rush hundreds more passengers were forced to evacuate both Broadview and Chester stations after a man let out dog spray.

There's no word on why the strange and potentially dangerous act was committed, but both police and firefighters were called to the scene and the man will face unspecified charges.
