StreetBeat - Feb. 27 - Mom-To-Be Survives Being Hit By Train

Miraculous Escape

Police say a pregnant woman is lucky she wasn't seriously hurt after the SUV she was driving was hit by a freight train near Lake Shore and Logan around 9am Tuesday. The woman was shaken up but wasn't taken to hospital. Investigators say the freight train was apparently moving slowly at the time and that saved her from serious injury - or  worse.

"It looks like the signals were working," agrees Sgt. Mike Proulx. "The woman is 36 weeks pregnant. She was barely injured but the truck was push eastbound about 25 metres by the weight of the train."

Close Call

Black ice may have caused a highway rollover during the morning rush Tuesday. It happened around 7:25am on the 401 near Dixie Rd. The highway was wet when a vehicle ended up on its roof in the westbound lanes. The driver suffered serious injuries but is expected to be okay.
