Lance Armstrong In Toronto For Cancer Fundraiser

Seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong shared his story of cancer survival to inspire others to join him in the fight against the disease at a fundraiser in Toronto Wednesday night.   Armstrong, who suffered testicular and brain cancer, spoke at the Royal York Hotel  during the event called, 'Strength When It's Needed The Most.'

They've already raised $600,000, money that will help fund the expansion of the chemotherapy unit at the Sunnybrook Cancer Centre

"We have stupendous oncologists and wonderful nurses, really it is an awesome team and really we will work hard to raise the profile even further," promised Linda Rabeneck, Regional V.P., of Cancer Care Ontario.

Armstrong says his competitive nature helped him beat the disease and some still battling cancer say his words offer the necessary encouragement to fight on.

"I have the strength to get through this," said cancer patient Katie Osler.   "And his word are exactly where my mind is, so really he is my support group right now."

The Sunnybrook Centre takes in 10,000 patients every year.

The expansion begins in the spring and should be complete by the fall.
