Fatal shooting in Etobicoke

A leather jacket found at the scene of a murder was embroidered with the slogan "Dead men tell no tales," Toronto Police said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Abdikadir Khan, 24, was found dead in an Etobicoke stairwell on March 20. Khan had been shot in the head.

“It would appear that this gentleman lay in the stairwell for many hours before police were called,” Det. Sgt. Pauline Gray said at police headquarters.

“Police were able to canvas the building and we received some information. Videos from the building have been secured and investigators are being those videos as we speak,” Gray added. Gray said police found a jacket near Khan’s body and are looking for its owner, who may have seen the murder.

He is considered a witness and not a person of interest or a possible suspect, Gray said. The jacket, a size 52, is by designer Al Wissan.

“If you weren’t looking closely, you would think it was just a black leather jacket. But the stitching is quite intricate up-close. It’s not inexpensive, probably around the $1200 range,” Gray said.

Khan was no longer living in the apartment building at 320 Dixon Rd., west of Islington Avenue, where his body found, but likely still knew people in the building.

Khan's death marks the city's 15th homicide of 2011.

Investigators want to speak with anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. Sunday morning. If you can help, call police at 416-808-7412 or Crime Stoppers at 416 222-TIPS.
