Police charged a 46-year-old man with murder this week after his wife was stabbed to death.

Maria Rosario Avidago, 43, was stabbed inside her Mississauga home on Longford Drive, near Ninth Line and Eglinton Avenue, Tuesday afternoon. Officers arrived at the scene just after 1:30 p.m. and reportedly had to use a stun gun to subdue the woman’s husband.

Avidago, reportedly a mother of two, was rushed to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Thursday.

The woman’s husband, Victor Avidago, is charged with second-degree murder. He made a brief court appearance Wednesday and was remanded into custody.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact them at (905) 453-2121, ext. 3205 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222TIPS.
