In the
midst of a strike, the TTC has announced an enormous expansion to the subway system.
The seven-year, six-station expansion would link the Toronto system to York region, and cost about $2.63 billion.
A chunk of that comes from the TTC itself. The better way gave the project management contract, and $100 million, to Spadina Link Project Managers Team.
One Vaughan councillor Sandra Yeung Racco, who's been pushing for the move for years, said she was "happy" about the funding announcement.
However, she warned that "we need to see.shovels in the ground."
The underground system is expected to stretch for 8.6 km. It's the largest expansion in 40 years, since the Bloor Danforth line was created.
