Ramping up for its launch next week,
Bixi Toronto is installing its first bike-sharing stations in the city.
Starting Tuesday, workers will install 10 to 15 stations a day until the service starts on May 3. When the system is in place, people will be able to pick up a bike from a fleet of 1,000 and drop it off at any one of 80 downtown hubs.
The program started in Montreal two years ago and also operates in London, U.K., Melbourne, and Washington, D.C.
It costs $5 for a day pass, $40 for a 30-day subscription and $95 for a year.
So far, more than 1,000 people have signed up.
