In January,
chunks of the Gardiner Expressway came crashing down. In March, it was
ice on the CN Tower. And who could forget when part of a billboard ad injured a man after falling at
Yonge and Dundas? On Tuesday, yet another dangerous incident took place after a huge slab of marble fell some 60 floors from the tower at First Canadian Place. Incredibly, the huge rock didn't hit anyone, plummeting to the third floor before a precipice broke its fall around 3:15pm. But officials have no idea if that's the only piece that's loose.
As a result, police have closed down a section of
King St. West from York to Bay and
Adelaide St. W., also from York to Bay. No pedestrian or vehicular traffic is being allowed through until further notice. It's not clear what caused the mishap. There was no construction going on at the time, although the weather may have played a role.
Cops will reassess the safety when the weather clears. Until then, the areas remain off limits.
