A 10-year-old boy died at a Brampton home Friday night.
While details are scarce at this point, police have confirmed to CityNews they are investigating the case and an autopsy is being conducted.
“We are working closely with the coroner’s office, and really the results of the post-mortem are very important to us at this point. We have to weigh in as to whether this is a death due to natural causes, and we also have to weigh in as to whether this turns into a criminal investigation,” said Adam Minnion, Peel Regional Police.
Emergency crews were called to the scene on Homeland Court in the Dixie Road and Howden Boulevard area just after 5 p.m. They wouldn’t say who made the call.
Neighbours, who tell CityNews the little boy’s name was Shakeil, say he was a very sweet child.
“When I saw the yellow tape go up, I knew it wasn’t good…This is very devastating, he was a very nice child, very polite, please, thank you,” said the boy’s crossing guard Tawyna King
Results of the autopsy aren’t expected aren’t expected for another few days, but police tell CityNews they will be monitoring the results “very closely.”
No charges have been laid at this point.
