Toronto police are hunting for suspects after three men were shot in Kensington Market early Sunday morning.
Emergency crews were called to the scene around 4:30 a.m. outside what police say is an after-hours club at Augusta Avenue, near Denison Square.
Three victims range in age from 22-34. One of the men was struck three times and was taken to hospital in serious condition.
“Three people were shot, two of them were just bystanders. One guy was shot in the leg, went through his wallet. One guy was shot in the back or something, he was in pretty bad shape and then one guy was shot in the arm,” said witness John McCurley.
The other two were shot once and sustained minor injuries.
All the victims are expected to recover.
“What we do know if three people have been struck and three people are in hospital right now,” said Detective Chilvers of Toronto police 14 Division.
Police have set up a command post at 203 Augusta Ave. while they continue their investigation.
People who were inside the club at the time of the shooting were temporarily being housed on a TTC bus for questioning.
Police say two suspects were seen heading south on Augusta Avenue.
This violence comes on the first day Kensington Market begins its annual car-free Sundays. In the summer, the last Sunday of every month the streets of Kensington Market are car free to allow pedestrians to walk freely on the streets.
“I guess I’m just naïve to the violence that goes on here, as a resident of this neighbourhood,” said Chris Markle.
