A 15-year-old boy is the city’s latest murder victim after a shooting in north Etobicoke and police believe the person who pulled the trigger may have chased a possible witness.

Andrew Naidoo was fatally shot late Sunday night on Martin Grove Road at Betteridge Lane, just north of Finch Avenue -- not far from his home.

His family remembered Naidoo on Monday, releasing a statement through a family friend.

"Andrew loved his family and always looked forward to seeing everyone at family gatherings," Savitri - who did not give her last name - told reporters.

"Andrew is his mom's baby and nothing will change that," she added.

Naidoo's mother, along with dozens of other neighbours, had rushed to Naidoo's side after hearing gunshots on Sunday.

After an intense effort by paramedics to resuscitate the teen, he was wheeled into Sunnybrook hospital around 11:30 p.m. where was pronounced dead. Naidoo's death is the city's 23rd homicide of the year.

“It’s terrible, it’s absolutely terrible,” Det. Sgt. Peter Trimble of the Toronto Police homicide squad said at the scene Monday morning.

“We believe a second victim, a second witness, was chased by the suspects either just before or just after this shooting.”

Authorities say Naidoo and some other people were in a courtyard behind 1803-1801 Martin Grove Road when the gunfire erupted.

Trimble said investigators don’t have much to go on at this point and he appealed for tips from the public.

“Cases like this … we need the public’s help to come forward,” he said.

So far no suspect descriptions have been released. Investigators will be scanning through footage from security cameras in the area.

If you have any information call the Homicide Squad at (416) 808-7400 or Crime Stoppers at (416) 222-TIPS.

Toronto Police also put out an appeal for witnesses on YouTube. Watch Det. Sgt. Peter Trimble in the video below.
