Toronto's one of
35 towns and cities across Ontario in which the
Ministry of the Environment ordered water to be tested after concerns about the lead content in the many of the city's pipes.
But on Wednesday, one of the most famous addresses in all of the GTA was singled out for particularly problematic H20.
Queen's Park already had air quality tests scheduled for this week, but when the lead tests made headlines days ago officials decided to do their own. The results were hardly stellar.
Seven of 20 tests showed higher than allowable lead amounts, and secondary testing was immediately scheduled.
In the meantime, all Queen's Park employees as well as public visitors are being advised to drink only from water coolers, which are filled with filtered water.
That worries NDP leader Howard Hampton. "The coffee I drink, the tea I drink is tap water at Queen's Park, so I am concerned. Not only with my own health, but all of the staff and all of the people that work there."
Because they haven't localized the source, it's not known whether the contamination is coming from the Queen's Park pipes, or pipes outside the building.
