A teenage boy was fined $1,000 on Tuesday for a crash that left two people dead last year.
Eduardo Pascoal, 73, and his wife Fernandina, 74, were killed on May 13, 2010 after the teen lost control of his car on Dixie Road near Cormack Crescent in Mississauga and slammed into the Pascoal’s car. Eduardo died in hospital and Fernandina died in the ambulance.
The now 18-year-old, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal
Justice Act, is also banned from driving for the next two years and must
perform 100 hours of community service.
The teen pleaded guilty to a charge of careless driving and apologized to the family in court.
According to the victims' children, his sentence was far too light.
"My parents' life was worth $1000? These two precious people, that are missed by over 100 relatives, because they were wonderful people, their life is worth $1000? Come on," daughter Maria Amaral told CityNews.
