Police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot to death in North York late Thursday. There were several witnesses, authorities say, as there was a crowd of about 40 people when officers arrived at the scene.

The gunfire erupted around 10 p.m. at a townhouse complex at 2901 Jane St., just south of Finch Avenue. Police found 26-year-old Andrew Stewart suffering from two gunshot wounds to the chest.

He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead, marking the city's 24th homicide of the year.

Investigators are looking for a suspect described as:

-Brown,
-5'6" to 5'7" tall
-Thin face and build, short braided hair

A vehicle was spotted speeding away from the scene.

Stewart was known to frequent that neighbourhood and detectives want to talk to anyone who was with him just before he died.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (416) 808-7377 or Crime Stoppers at (416) 222-TIPS.
