Arrest warrant issued for suspect in teen’s murder

Police have issued an arrest warrant for a 35-year-old suspect in the murder of 18-year-old Margarita Shumakova.

The teenager’s body was found off a rural road in Uxbridge on July 9 as officers were investigating an unrelated matter in the area.

The cause of death hasn’t been released.

Durham Regional Police are now trying to find Babak Ghanad, who’s described as a drifter. He’s accused of first-degree murder.

Investigators want to speak with anyone who’s seen or has had contact with Ghanad.
