The province has ordered the TTC and Metrolinx to cancel plans to hire an art curator for stops on the Eglinton Crosstown LRT.

Transportation Minister Kathleen Wynne told the Toronto Star she first learned of the job posting after reading about it in Thursday’s newspaper.

The TTC had placed an ad in a local paper three days earlier, offering a two-year, $420,000 contract for a consultant who would choose artwork for the new line.

Wynne immediately ordered Metrolinx CEO Bruce McCuaig to take the ad down. The provincial agency was to pay the salary.

She said the TTC should focus on getting the line built and paying so much money for an art consultant is not warranted right now.

The province is funding the $8.2-billion line which will connect Jane Street to the Scarborough City Centre and should be running in 2020.
