Barrie police have arrested three male teenagers and charged them with second-degree murder after a 42-year-old father of seven was killed Saturday evening at a mini-putt course in the city’s south end.
Bradley Hubbard of Collingwood, Ont., died shortly after 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Masters Mini Putt course on Commerce Park Drive, police say.
Reports say he was stabbed in the neck with a broken putter in front of his girlfriend and two young children after confronting a group of rowdy teens.
"Some kids were being stupid and got out of control, he just tried to calm them down, and it just went too far," the victim's son, Brodie Hubbard, told CityNews.
"It's just horrifying knowing that I don't have a dad," he added. "I don't have my dad anymore, and I just talked to him the other day, and the last thing I said to him is 'I love you.'"
Justin Spring, 18, Matthew Spring, 19, and Jake Workman, 18, were charged with second-degree murder and remain in police custody, Barrie police Toni Dufour told CityNews.
They made a brief court appearance Monday morning. Their bail hearings were put over until Wednesday.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday in Toronto to determine the cause of death.
Police are interviewing more than 30 witnesses.
