A 29-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a police officer was hit during an SUV chase on Friday.

Toronto police say the officer attempted to pull over the vehicle near Yonge and Dundas streets around 4:30 p.m. Instead of stopping, the driver took off, taking the officer – who was on a bike – along with him.

The car was eventually stopped on Shuter Street near Parliament Street, and the driver was taken into custody.

On Saturday, he was charged with attempted murder as well as possession of property obtained by crime, failure to stop for police and dangerous driving.

Police say a woman who was in the car with the accused is a victim and is not being charged.
