Violent Weekend Capped By Overnight Shooting In The East End

We've had another violent weekend in the city as Toronto records its 46th homicide of the year.

Police were called to Wilcox Creek Pathway near Morningside and Old Finch around 3:30am Sunday after a man was found in a car suffering from several gun shot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's believed 25-year-old Michael George (pictured) was shot at least four times, once in the head, and three times in the chest. No arrests, no word on suspects.

"It's just another senseless killing in Toronto," said the victim's uncle Kevin. "Michael was a sweet, genuine person ... not an enemy in the world."

It's believed the victim was on his way to visit his girlfriend when he was hit with several shots at close range.

"The neighbour in the area, just after the gun shots, saw a silver-coloured car speed off out of that complex," said Toronto Police Det. Sgt. Steve Ryan. "My belief is that there's more than one person in that car."

George's family and friends say the young man had no reason to be connected to this type of violence.

"He's not a gang member ... we have no motive and it's just senseless," the victim's uncle reiterated.

Not long after the shooting, police responded to a stabbing call at the corner of McCowan and Eglinton. The victim in that incident was stabbed multiple times in the chest, but was revived on the way to hospital.

This comes a week after what's being remembered by some as "the weekend of the gun." A total of eight people were shot between last Saturday and Sunday along, with four fatal victims including 11-year-old Ephraim Brown.
