Peel Regional police have released the name of a three-year-old Mississauga girl who died under suspicious circumstances last week.

Niyati Jha died at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children on Sept. 21.

The homicide squad and the special victims unit are investigating.

Authorities aren’t releasing details of the incident that led to the child’s death, and the cause of death hasn’t been determined.

“Investigators are awaiting the results of additional forensic and medical evidence. We remain focused on determining, based on the evidence, what caused the death of this young girl,” Insp. George Koekkoek said Tuesday.

Jha was brought to a medical clinic from her Green Meadow Crescent home on Sept. 20. The little girl was then transported to SickKids in critical condition and placed on life support. She died Wednesday, police said.

No charges have been laid.

Police are asking anyone with information to call (905) 453-2121 ext. 3205 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
