Suspect in poppy donation box theft sought
Hamilton police are asking for tips from the public after poppy boxes were pinched from two Tim Hortons, a day after a similar crime happened in Toronto’s west end.

Investigators have strong leads as surveillance images of a suspect have been released in both cases.

Police said the latest incident happened at a Tim Hortons at 239 King St. W. around 6 a.m. Thursday.  Surveillance video shows the suspect place an order and then take off with the donation boxes when the clerk turned away.

A man matching the same description did the same thing about half an hour earlier at another Tim Hortons at 65 Ottawa St. N., police said.

A still image and a video of the suspect were released Thursday. Click on the attached video to see the suspect, who’s described as:

-East Asian
-early 20s
-five feet eight inches tall, 160 pounds with a medium build
-short black hair and a goatee

He was wearing a dark blue jacket with a white stripe down the sleeves and a logo on the back.

"I'm optimistic that we will find him," Det. Barbara Kohl told CityNews.  "It's a very clear picture and I have had a number of tips coming in and we are in the process of following up on the tips."

Call police at (905) 546-4925 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS if you have any information.

Meanwhile, cops in Toronto continue to search for the suspect who stole a poppy box from a Pizza Nova on The Queensway near Islington late Monday night.
