Homicide detectives are investigating two deaths in Hamilton overnight.

Police, firefighters and paramedics arrived at a house on Cannon Street East around 1:30 a.m. Saturday after getting a 911 call.

Inside, they found a woman dead and a man with critical injuries.

He was taken to Hamilton General Hospital, where he died around 3 a.m.

Det. Staff Sgt. Ian Matthews of the Hamilton police homicide unit said the woman was “the apparent victim of a homicide,” but that autopsies would take place on Saturday.

He said officers spoke with a third person, who was in the home and called for help, and they are not looking for any suspects.

Police are in the process of notifying family, some of whom live abroad, and will release more details later.

The coroner is also investigating.
