If you smelled something fishy wafting over Toronto, you’re not alone.

Some CityNews.ca readers noticed a fishy odour beginning on Tuesday night across the city and throughout Wednesday.

Toronto Public Health spokeswoman Rishma Govani said she too detected a slight odour by Rogers Centre on Wednesday, and said it could be a combination of the warmer temperatures and the lake. But an official city response wasn’t immediately available.

Kate Jordan, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of the Environment, said in an email that her department hasn't received any complaints. She said that odours from Lake Ontario are possible given the warmer temperatures and the winds from the south.

Greg Elliott posted on Twitter, “Why does Toronto smell like fish right now? #smellyTO"

Kristi E. tweeted, “I thought that I smelled fish this morning - King and Strachan. What was it?”

Another person tweeted, “YES! Liberty Village this morning and High Park last night. YUCH. Is the lake sweating in all this December heat?”

David Granner told CityNews in an email that he noticed a very strong odour when he left his apartment at Yonge and Eglinton on Wednesday morning, something he described as "sea-odour."

"It's not the first time this has occurred but still, Yonge & Eglinton?" he wrote.
