The first day of snow meant major problems for GO Transit, with several trains on the Lakeshore East line delayed for hours on Wednesday.

GO Transit confirmed the delays were caused by signal problems related to weather issues.

The 7 a.m. train from Oshawa, due to arrive at Union Station at 7:50 a.m., was one hour and 45 minutes late.

Other trains were delayed anywhere from 21 minutes to one hour and 40 minutes. The Port Perry GO bus was also delayed.

Earlier, GO Transit spokesperson Malon Edwards told CityNews the delays may have been a CP or CN rail issue.

Ontario government agency Metrolinx operates GO Transit.

Earlier this year, Premier Dalton McGuinty promised a full refund for passengers who were delayed more than 15 minutes. That program is scheduled to begin in 2012, and is expected to cost the province $6 million to $7 million.
