Police are urging a mother wanted in connection to a child abuse investigation to turn herself in. The 28-year-old woman is accused of failing to provide the necessities of life to her seven-year-old daughter, who’s currently in hospital with serious injuries.
Authorities announced on Wednesday that they were searching for Aela Medas and believed she was with her other, nine-year-old daughter. On Thursday police said they’d located the second child in good condition at a home in the Don Mills and Sheppard area, but continue to search for the mother.
Const. Tony Vella confirmed to CityNews.ca that the seven-year-old is in hospital in “very serious condition” but wouldn’t elaborate on the nature of the child’s injuries or how she got them.
“The mother could be anywhere in the Greater Toronto Area,” Vella said. “We are urging her to contact police and turn herself in immediately.”
Medas is described as black, five feet, six inches tall and 130 lbs. She's wanted on a charge of failing to provide the necessities of life.
