Police have charged a man with two counts of threatening death after an incident at Mayor Rob Ford's home in Etobicoke on Wednesday morning.
Scott MacIntyre, 45, is also facing charges of forcible entry and possession of heroin and cocaine. He will appear in court on Thursday.
He was arrested at Days Inn hotel near
Eglinton Ave and Tomken Rd.
MacIntyre is the former boyfriend of Ford's sister, Kathy Ford. He faced weapons charges almost seven years ago after Kathy Ford was shot in the face.
She survived and the charges were later dropped.
Kathy’s son Michael told CityNews the couple split only a few weeks ago.
On Wednesday, a neighbour called 911 at around 8:30 a.m. after noticing someone acting suspiciously outside Ford's home.
Ford downplayed the incident when he spoke to reporters at Toronto City Hall.
"I had someone come over this morning and I asked them to leave. That's it. I don't want to get into too many details. I'm fine, I can take care of myself."
It's not yet clear if the suspect's alleged threats were directed at Ford.
The mayor's brother, Coun. Doug Ford, said he didn't believe the incident was a random one. He also said he believes his brother should increase his security, something he has refused to do in the past.
"That's just Rob, always saying he's the average guy and 'I don't need a police detail,'" Doug Ford said.
"The mayor is fine, his family is fine, and that's all I can comment at this moment."
Two men had previously been charged with threatening Ford's life.
In August 2011, Robert Dunlop, 46, was charged after allegedly making threats on Facebook and Twitter.
In a separate incident, Toronto police charged Anthony Vella, 56, with one count of threatening death on July 14.
Vella allegedly threatened Ford during a recorded call to 311.
