A funeral was held Wednesday for Katherine Newman, the 43-year-old mother of three who was stabbed to death in her Oakville home last week.
The service was held at St. Ann’s Catholic church in Ancaster.
Newman was a nurse and school volunteer and a devoted mother to her three sons, Thomas, Joshua and James, her family said.
The boys lost both of their parents under disturbing circumstances. Their father, Kyle Newman, 43, was shot to death by police at a Halton Regional Police station on Oak Walk Drive in Oakville, around the same time the body of Katherine, his estranged wife, was discovered.
The province’s police watchdog is currently investigating the circumstances of Kyle Newman’s death.
The slain woman’s family has established an education fund for the children.
“Though we can never replace the loss of Katherine's light from our lives, we have three living reminders of the love she brought to us, and to this world, and we will always be endlessly thankful for them,” the family said in a statement released earlier this week.
