A 15-year-old boy has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of an up-and-coming mixed-martial arts fighter at a Brampton banquet hall last April.
Kearn Nedd, 28, was shot after he stepped in to help the organizer of a poker tournament when two armed and masked men burst into the Rozz Banquet Hall on Advance Boulevard, near Dixie Road and Steeles, on April 16, 2011.
Police said Nedd was acting as a Good Samaritan when he grabbed one of the gunmen during the robbery. Shots were fired and Nedd was hit. He died in hospital.
Nedd’s death was Peel region’s sixth homicide of 2011.
On Monday, investigators announced they have arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with Nedd’s death. The teen, who was in custody on unrelated charges, was 14 at the time of his alleged involvement and cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
This is the second arrest in Nedd’s murder.
Last week, Samir Abdelgadir, 30, was charged with accessory after the fact to murder. This charge came after police raided a condo on Living Arts Drive and allegedly found a cache of weapons in a storage locker, including a 9-mm semi-automatic Beretta that forensic investigators positively linked to Nedd’s murder.
