Police Hunt For Cabbie Who Allegedly Steals Customers' Bank Cards

Toronto Police are on the hunt for a downtown cab driver wanted for fraud and they're appealing for your help to track him down.

The suspect (pictured) has reportedly been swiping his customers' personal banking information when they pay a fare by using a special PIN-pad.

He allegedly swipes a customer's card on the hand-held device, then records their PIN and hands them back a false card without the client suspecting a thing. Once the customer steps out of the cab, the driver allegedly goes to the nearest bank machine and withdraws as much cash as possible.

Sal Marino believes he was one of the culprit's victims.

"We got scammed," he states.  "And the guy played on the fact that he knew we were out having a good time at the bar."

Not long after he got out of the vehicle, he noticed that the driver had given him back a fake card.

"We immediately cancelled our card, but it was too late," he adds.  "He had already taken $900, and it was within five minutes."

Marino didn't know the suspect was wanted until a friend sent him a link to a CityNews.ca story.

"I was like, 'That's the guy. That's him!' "

If you've seen him call 53 Division at (416) 808-5307or Crime Stoppers anonymously at (416) 222-TIPS (8477).
