The province's police watchdog — the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) — is probing a woman’s fall off a balcony of a Sherbourne Street apartment building Friday morning.

A man in his 40s was taken into custody after the woman plunged three storeys around 1:30 a.m. at 266 Sherbourne St., north of Dundas. It’s unclear whether she fell or was thrown from the balcony.  She was rushed to hospital with several broken bones.

Police were on scene when it happened. Officers were called to the address after someone had apparently locked themselves inside a unit.

There’s no word on charges against the man who was arrested.

The SIU investigates incidents involving police that result in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.
