Fire at Long Branch apartment building prompts evacuation

Residents forced to evacuate a Birchlea Ave. apartment due to a fire, Feb. 6, 2012. CITYNEWS
A fire in a low-rise apartment building in  Long Branch forced dozens of people out of their homes early Monday morning.

The flames erupted around 4: 30 a.m. in a unit of a three-storey building at 15 Birchlea Ave., near Lake Shore and Kipling. Firefighters managed to get the blaze under control quickly and no injuries were reported.

There’s no word yet on the cause or on a damage estimate.
