On Monday 96 per cent of York Region Transit service was up and running after a three-month strike paralyzed the system.
The remaining 10 routes will begin service Tuesday.
The strike began on Oct. 24, 2011, with employees from three companies walking off the job.
In January, members of two locals of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) ratified deals with Miller Transit, which operates 51 of 120 routes, and Veolia Transportation, which runs Viva service.
The regional municipality terminated its deal with First Canada on 29 routes, and hired TOK Transit Ltd. to operate buses in the region’s northern parts.
Commuters in York Region also enjoyed a free ride on Monday and they won’t pay a cent for the next two months.
The region started offering free service on Saturday.
Free rides also apply to Dial-a-Ride, Mobility Plus, TTC routes and GO Route 69 - Sutton GO Bus in the region, York Region Transit said in a statement.
Anyone with monthly passes for February can save them until April.
