Two woman are dead following a two-car crash on Highway 401 in Trenton, Ontario Provincial Police tells CityNews.

Korin Howes, 23, died instantly when her red Hyundai Accent struck another car on Monday morning. She was going eastbound in the wrong direction, police say. Shaina Harrison of Oshawa was driving the other car and was killed.

The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed between Wallbridge Loyalist and Glen Miller roads for more than six hours.

Police say they're not sure where Howes entered the highway, but the closest entrance was five kilometres away. They say alcohol may have been a factor.

Howes' neighbour Tammy Bellamy described her as a "really happy girl," who held two part-time jobs, one at Sears and the other as a bartender.
