Three people were hurt, one seriously, in a crash involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger van that closed the Toronto-bound QEW in Mississauga for six hours on Wednesday.

The accident happened around 5:15 a.m., just east of Winston Churchill Boulevard. The van lost control and hit the rig, which was hauling a shipping container and flipped on its side. There’s no word yet on possible charges.

Three of the five people in the van were hurt and taken to local hospitals. One was later transferred to Sunnybrook hospital and may have life-threatening injuries.

The truck driver was not hurt

A Haz-mat team was called in to clean up diesel fuel that spilled on the highway.

The road reopened at 11:30 a.m.
