The verdict for two men accused of beating a Barrie, Ont., man to death at a resort in the Dominican Republic has been postponed.
One of the defendants, Canadian citizen Dmytro Aref Yev, did not have a lawyer, and now has 10 days to find one or have one appointed to him.
He and Algerian national Bouzid Redha could each face up to 20 years in prison if they’re found guilty of first-degree murder when they’re back in court on March 12.
Jordon Morrison, 19, was attacked outside a nightclub at the Grand Paradise Bavaro resort on Feb. 4, 2011, after he came to the defence of a Guelph, Ont., woman who had been spat on and harassed by another man. Morrison was vacationing with his family at the time.
The accused men claim they were drunk at the time of the attack and didn’t intend to kill Morrison. Both men pleaded not guilty to the charges.
