Flames, trains, and automobiles kept fire crews busy Friday night after a boxcar filled with vehicles became fully engulfed in the west end.
The 2-alarm blaze erupted around 9 p.m. at a train yard near Keele St. and St. Clair Ave.
The CP boxcar, which was fully engulfed, was filled with 18 brand new automobiles.
"We set up two aerial ladders and multiple hand lines," Platoon Chief Nigel Soper told CityNews. "We attacked the train car that was fully involved. We believe the fire is under control."
Soper said favourable winds pushed heavy smoke eastbound away from a residential area to the south, preventing evacuations.
The fire marshal has been notified and an investigation is underway.
No one was injured.
